“I think that I shall never see, something as lovely as a tree.”
At Coole Swan, we are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint and we operate using the most sustainable practices available to us. A project very close to our hearts is tree planting. Trees are very beneficial and even a small number of trees can greatly improve wildlife in the area they are planted and also absorb greenhouse gases.
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and other potentially harmful gasses, such as sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide from the air and release oxygen. Did you know one large tree can supply a day’s supply of oxygen for four people and a healthy tree can store 13 pounds of carbon each year — (2.6 tons per acre of trees).
That is why in 2021 we planted over 450 trees (approx. 1 acre). We focused on native Irish varieties of trees such as Ash and Oak and Horse Chestnut trees which provide a rich source of nectar and pollen for insects, particularly bees, food for blue tits, shelter for nesting and conkers for deer and other mammals.
We hope to grow this project year on year by planting a minimum of one acre of trees every year. Meaning we will have a small forest by 2030!
