Coole Cocktail Tips
We have scoured the internet and racked the brains of professionals and here is what we learned about perfecting our craft of cocktail making.
1) The Glass
Put your glass in the fridge for up to four hours or the freezer for under two. This will give the glass a frosted look and match your glass to your drinks temperature – maximizing flavour.
2) The Rim of the Glass
This looks professional but rest assured even us amateurs can do it. First, moisten the rim of the glass using a syrup or perhaps a citrus fruit juice or liquor. Then turn your glass upside down and dip it in salt or sugar, twisting to get the glass rim fully covered. There you have it – a classy (and Coole) rim.
3) Shake or Stir?
A drink with clear ingredients should be stirred, while drinks like Coole Swan should be shaken. How hard do you shake? Harry Craddock wrote in the Savoy Cocktail book to shake as hard as you can – you are “trying to wake (the cocktail) up” – say no more Harry, we can take it from here.
4) Tool Kit
Chefs have their knives, painters have their brushes and writers have their pens. Mixologists need the right barware to do what they do. A jigger, a shaker, a stirrer, a strainer, a muddler. Last week we discovered an eggcup makes for the perfect jigger – Who would have known?
The art of the best cocktail is in the taste. Pick a recipe, mix up your creation and voila! Sit back and appreciate your newfound talent.
Be sure to share your cocktails with us online. We would love to see them.
