Stay At Home Barista
In our quest to become #stayathome baristas we called on the experts at Badger and Dodo, specialty coffee roasters in County Cork where we hooked up with Brock, (the Badger in Badger and Dodo) who kindly shared some top tips with us:
Perfect Ratio of water to coffee – 1000ml of water to every 60g of coffee. As Brock reminded us, “water is one of the key ingredients in your coffee, it is worthy of some respect”.
Perfect Measure of coffee – Brock recommends using Scales not “Scoops” This is a solid tip for those of us currently using the random tablespoon method!
Perfect water temperature – The insider rule of thumb is to boil the kettle and leave for 20 seconds with the lid open. The chaotic kettle method may currently be what stands between you and your perfect cup of coffee.
Perfect Brewing Timing – Three minutes – The maximum time you should let your coffee brew in a cafetiѐre before plunging. Once you’ve plunged, empty the cafetiѐre or else the coffee will keep brewing and become bitter.
Perfect Strength – This a matter of personal choice but remember the three minutes rule.
Perfect way to enjoy – Slow. Coffee releases different flavours as it cools. It takes time to make the perfect coffee. It should take time to drink it.
One other tip and this one we are always happy to share, just as your cup of coffee is ready to enjoy, add Coole Swan. This will bring an already perfect cup of coffee to a new level.
Get the kettle on and release your inner barista. Send in your pictures and/or videos we would be delighted to post them on our social feed.
