The early days
Cream liqueurs have a long tradition in Ireland, dating as far back as the thirteenth century.
We are proud to be the only true remaining genuine Irish cream liqueur. This means we are produced in Ireland and only in Ireland. We are proud members of the Love Irish Food association, a small group of Irish brands that are made in the Republic of Ireland using only the finest ingredients.
For around 20 years prior to 2008, consumer choice was extremely limited as this sector of the drinks market was dominated by one particular brand. It was then that the team (including industry pros David Gluckman, David Phelan, Adrian Walker and the McKevitt family) identified a clear niche for a premium quality artisanal product.
Their aim was to bring Irish Cream Liqueur to a wider audience, blending local, natural ingredients to offer a superior, luxury product with a smooth and refreshing taste experience that lingers for you to savour and enjoy.
Just one year later the journey towards realizing this dream was started.
Blending the finest, single malt Irish Whiskey and delicious, fresh dairy cream from the Coole Swan farm together with white Belgian Chocolate.
Coole Swan hit the market – and it was, without question, love at first taste.
In its first year, Coole Swan won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, that’s no less than the equivalent to the Oscars for Spirit Brands!
Such was the sign of things to come. The flavour profile, texture and overall quality of the liqueur resulted in rapid annual growth and in just four short years, Coole Swan had secured its place on the worldwide stage.
Accruing countless Gold-standard awards and accolades from respected industry bodies in the years since, it is clear that consumer thirst for Coole Swan still remains unquenched.
Roots of success
As you would expect with such a quality liqueur each aspect of the Coole Swan production process is undertaken with the greatest attention to detail.
The cows are free to graze as they wish on the luscious grass, being milked twice a day and each producing up to 28 litres of fresh milk. This lifestyle is seen as a key essential ingredient towards ensuring the yield of only the tastiest, smoothest cream for the making of Coole Swan.
Within minutes of milking, the cream is taken for rigorous quality sampling to make certain that it fully complements Coole Swan’s chosen whiskey grain and so delivers the perfect taste.
Next, the Belgian white chocolate is added to the cream and blended in a gentle heating process. This requires careful management throughout with the mixture churned up to 100 times an hour for five hours.
The whiskey barrels are then lifted into position and the two liquids, the Irish whiskey and the cream/chocolate blend, are combined using a unique high-speed process.
Finally, the liqueur is poured into our signature white bottles with a swan engraved blue top produced by Hrastnik in Slovenia and decorated in Poland. These unmistakable bottles are coated with a special white, light resistant paint which guarantees that Coole Swan is always stored at its best for taste and enjoyment.
Serve chilled and neat, straight from the fridge or over ice.
